COVID UPDATE

Starting July 15 The doors of Time Capsule will open again. Hours are going to be a bit fluid for the first few weeks. So I will be posting the hours for each week at the beginning of each week on the STORES FACEBOOK Group page (search Time Capsule Dunnville) For the first week the hours are as follows: Monday-Closed Tuesday-Closed Wednesday- 10am-6pm Thursday-10am-6pm Friday-Closed Saturday-11:00am-5pm Sunday-11:00am-4pm The new reality makes certain inconveniences, necessary evils. As advised by the provincial overlords and with the safety of my family, my customers and the public in general in mind, I ask if you could please adhere to these requests. 1. Please use hand sanitizer (provided by us) upon entering the store. 2. Please bring and wear a mask when in the store. 3. Only 3 customers in the store at one time. 4. Please maintain the physical distancing protocols of 6 feet as required by the province Hopefully these requirements will eventually become a thing of the past, but for now I ask for your understanding and co-operation I hope to see your faces soon (at least the parts not covered by a mask).

NOW SOLD Trio of 1955 Maple BENTWOOD Side CHAIRS Stamped ROXTON Canadian Mid Century Modern Thonet

NOW SOLD. Here is a rarely seen trio of classic Canadian designed Mid Century Modern Chairs. They are bentwood maple, all three with date & manufacturers stamps 1955 Sept. 2 Roxton 500 Waterloo Que. On the bottoms Roxton Mills was a fairly well known Furniture Manufacturer in Quebec . They did primarily traditional style furniture but in the 1950’s to compete with the new Modern Styles being introduced by the likes of Russel Spanner at Ruspan , and Jan Kuypers at Imperial , they introduced a modest selection of more modern designs. On page 63 of the Design In Canada Book (Gotlieb and Golden 2004 ) they discuss Roxton Mills . These three chairs are example of that attempt at Modern Design. Clearly influenced by similar Thonet Chairs of the era and the bentwood techniques of Herman Miller with their Eames designed chairs, these stand out on their own. The unique tapering to the bentwood legs give it a very light look while the thick seat base provides sturdy comfort. These have seem some use with a few cigarette burns, and a bit of seam separation on one seat. However I like the look they have taken on with years of use, an honest patina. These chairs have character. Structurally they are solid, a testament to their well thought out design. Depth (back to front) is 20 1/8 inches, the Width is 16 inches, Seat height is 17 ½ inches and the backrest height is 31 inches. Sadly in Canada we haven’t championed our Mid-Century Modern design pieces as much as we should. However with the rising interest in Russel Spanner and Jan Kuypers work amongst other, that does seem to be slowly changing over the last 20 years or so. Get in on these chairs before everyone else catches on.

So i flaked on announcing here that we are now opened. Have been for nearly 2 weeks now. Hours are as follows Mon-Closed Tuesday-Closed Wed.-10am-5pm Thursday 10Am-5pm Friday 10am-5pm Saturday 11am-5pm Sunday 11am-5pm Sundays are a bit hit or miss as i do set up at antique, collectable and records shows throughout the year and those are usually on a Sunday. Also my son still take priority over anything else in my life so if i have to run and pick him up from school or take him to a doctors appointment i may have to close for part of the day. Progress update at the Retail space

Some of the art is now up on the walls. The Records bins are slowly filling up, and more and more boxes are coming out of storage. Moving along nicely.

TIME CAPSULE Retail Location to re-open soon!!!!!!

So I am beyond excited to report that the Time Capsule in Dunnville will be re-opening the old retail space. As many of you know upon the birth of my Son 4 years ago, I decided to close down the retail store to be able to spend as much time as possible with my son. Well he just started Junior Kindergarden this month, and coincidentally my wonderful tenant who took over the space faced the reality that he needed more space, and he moved to a larger location at the start of September leaving the space empty (Don’t worry Dunnvillians the Music Room has just moved down the Street beside the Deli). So I will be open the retail location at 168 Queen Street, Dunnville Ontario soon. It's early days yet so I don’t have a hard opening date, or hours. I am hoping before the end of October for an opening date. My whole life still revolves around my son and more than likely, so will the hours of the store. I will be opening when he is in class during the week. So roughly 9:30-2:30 during the week. I know that is limited, but I will also able to do appointment openings most evenings given enough notice. I am still trying to figure out weekends but most Saturdays 11:00-5:00, and same for Sundays (unless i have a record or nostalgia show booked). As I mentioned its early days still, I will be providing updates as things move along. For now here are a few pictures of the store as the on-going renovations and set up continues. The retail location will feature Mid Century Modern Furniture and Lighting pieces, Vintage Art Pottery and Glass pieces, Vintage Vinyl Records, Toys and collectable Nostalgia pieces, Modernist Vintage Wall art pieces of all sizes Vintage Electronics (games, stereo equipment ect) and more than likely some vintage clothing pieces. THESE ARE NOW SOLD Vintage SPACE AGE Chrome FLOOR & Table LAMP Acrylic DOME Shade Eames Era MCM Retro Mid Century Modern PAIR

THESE ARE NOW SOLD here is a stunning matching Space Age floor and table lamp. Finished in Chrome and smoked acrylic dome shades, they have a futuristic look that was typical of Space Age design during the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Each one features 3 sockets for bulb, and have an adjustable dimmer switch. The original oversized bulbs (included) in combination with the domed shades provide a unique glow that would look fantastic in any mod loft or apartment. The floor lamp measures 59 Inches tall, and the shade measures 18 Inches In Diameter, with the table lamp measuring 29 1/2 Inches tall and the shade having a diameter of 18 Inches. The chromes is very shiney with very few scratches. The dome shades do have some scuffs and scratches, but I imagine these could be buffed out. The shades are free from cracks or breaks. Overall this is a stunning pair. NOW SOLD

RUSSELL SPANNER Set of 4 CATALINA Chairs MID CENTURY MODERN Canadian

NOW SOLD Here is a scarcely seen set of 4 Catalina Series Side Chairs, designed and manufactured by the Spanner Products company of Toronto . Spanner Products was started by Russell Spanner. Spanner is Considered a pioneering Icon of Canadian modernism in furniture design producing icon pieces throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s, Russell Spanner designed pieces are tough to come by, and are highly sought after. Here we have 4 side chairs. Each chair features unique tapered leg stances and an almost cantilevered looking seat. The back rests are "Bowtie" in shape, bringing to mind the iconic dinning sets done by Heywood Wakefield in the 50’s in the United States. These still retain their original “Nutmeg “ finish that was offered by Spanner, as one of 3 color finish options. If the finish is not to your liking it would not be a very hard job to paint this into something that matches your décor. The vinyl seat covers are also original to the chairs as well. They key to these pieces are their very modern lines. Each Chair measures 32 inches tall at the back, 19 inches at widest point, 17 ½ inches height at the seat, 20 ½ inches deep measured off the wall. The Spanner labels are found on the undersides of each seat. As I mentioned these have their original finish and seat covers. The finish does have some spots of use wear, from where hands had moved the chairs over and over again in the same places over the years. The chairs do need a good cleaning if you wish to retain the original finish and covers. The chairs are structurally sound and are fantastic candidate for restoration, or contemporary updating with your choice of finish color and seat cover. Under appreciated for many years, Seduced and Abandoned, Virginia Wright's 1985 exhibition of Canadian furniture at The Art Gallery at Harbourfront brought renewed interest in Russell Spanner designs (and Canadian Modernist furniture in general) and more recently the “A Spanner in the Works , the Furniture of Russell Spanner 1950-1953” exhibit at the Power Plant Gallery in the 1990’s has added to the growing enthusiasm for collecting and appreciating these pieces. Here is your chance to own a scarce piece designed by what many consider to be the Charles Eames / George Nelson of Canada. I also have the dinning table from this series that i will be listing at a later date.

THIS IS NOW SOLD Antique GAS STATION / BARN Radial Wave Shade LAMP with BRACKET and CAST IRON POLE Industrial

THIS IS NOW SOLD For sale here is an antique pole lamp featuring a radial wave shade. It was the kind that was often found on the sides of GAS STATION / SERVICE STATION and also BARNS and other INDUSTRIAL buildings. This one clearly served outside for a long while. The poles cast iron surface has just the right kind of pitting and rust that lets you know its age. The radial wave shade also shows its age with different layers of paint and wear that you only get from years of exposure to the elements. The pole does have a makers name on it near where the shade connects to the pole, but I cant quite make out who it is. The whole thing measures roughly 59 inches long, and 25 inches high. The shades measures 18 inches across the diameter. It does have a small hole in the radial shade, and a piece of the pole has broken off where the shade ties into it. Everything else looks pretty solid. If you are looking for the rustic industrial look this is the lamp for you. You cant fake or “distress” this kind of authenticity of surface. This look is only achieve through years of exposure.
